Before & After
transform your horses' health & comfort
See Our Work
Here are a few examples of some common (and not-so-common) situations where we've been able to make a difference.

Excessive Growth with Tendon Strain Causing Discomfort
This case shows and overgrown hoof, where the horse was experiencing discomfort and impaired mobility. The "before" image shows excessive growth, tendon strain, and uneven weight distribution. After careful trimming, the "after" image reveals a balanced, healthy hoof that restores proper function and comfort.

Overgrown Hooves Impact Balance, Stride and Comfort
This collegiate polo horse's hooves were significantly overgrown — impacting balance, stride, and overall comfort. Our goal was to restore healthy hoof angles, improve performance, provide traction, and prepare the horse for the demands of high-speed indoor polo.
The horse showed immediate improvement in comfort and mobility after shoeing. With continued maintenance every 4-6 weeks, this polo athlete is now competition-ready and staying sound.

Severe Neglect in a Rescue Gelding
The older gelding was suffering from sever neglect when he was rescued. Battling thrush, white line separation, flaring, and severe overgrowth, a quick trim improved his comfort immediately!

Nicely Balanced Hooves
The young Quarter Horse already a solid foundation, however proper maintenance and a hoof trimmed to the "golden ratio", we were able to refine it even further into a textbook example of hoof health.

OTTB with Broken Coffin Bone
This young OTTB (off the track thoroughbred) had a fractured coffin bone in the left front, along with severely distorted hoof capsules, paper-thin walls, white line disease, and thin soles.
He's been through a variety of shoeing options — from rim shoes to spider plates with pads, and most recently, glue-on shoes. These glue-ons have truly been life-saving for him!

White Line Disease Resection
I used a Dreml to remove the infected areas, treated with a topical white line medication then patched the opening with glue & copper sulfate.
In order to properly remove severe white line infections like these, the hoof wall has to be opened up to air, as the fungus itself is anaerobic (meaning it thrives in places with no oxygen). Eventually this pony will grow out a brand new hoof wall and we’ll never know anything even happened!
Not the most beautiful glue job, as pony’s patience was running thin (I don’t blame him) but it will serve its purpose!

"Megan at Flatiron Forge provides excellent hoof care and customer service! I have a gaited Tennessee Walker Arab cross who grows a lot of hoof, and requires frequent trims to avoid tripping over long toes. Megan keeps his hooves in excellent condition, and provides information and education on hoof and horse care. Highly recommend!"
